Every year don’t know since when our family have this tradition of eating steamboat with the whole big family.
I used to sit down and going everywhere to do last minute shopping before the dinner starts. This year since I’ve learnt so much about cooking, I also contributed to the steamboat doing some dumplings and balls. We do healthy steamboat here as in there’s no frozen stuff here like every other steamboat out there.
We do this simple and healthy. There’s also matsuzaka beef (apparently better than wagyu and about the same grade as kobe beef) included in this yummy once a year dinner together with Mexican abalone (my dad said it is one of the best abalone available oit there as compared to Australian ones).
There’s also some big prawns gift from one of my dad’s friends having businesses in f&b field.
Normally in chinese custom, having steamboat means togetherness which is best fitted for chinese new year eve dinner where all of the family members come together once a year. We tried eating out in restaurants before… but the trouble of finding parking lots, tables (when you gotta eat fast since there’s second shift waiting outside the restaurant) and not-so-good quality of food make us feel eating at home is the best experience afterall…
